The idea behind the Rowmore 5.5 was first brought to light in cross country ski slopes in Åre Sweden when Sten Edström met Oscar Södergren. As it turns out they had both been thinking about rowing. The idea of capturing the sensation of human powered speed in a recreational boat, expressed in beautiful form, resulted in the Rowmore 5.5.
The Rowmore 5.5 is a design where speed and stability are carefully balanced with the goal of creating an easy to row and fast boat. The boat sports a shallow semi skimming hull with a sharp entry bow. A distinguished chine runs along the full length of the hull contributing to the hulls ability to take full advantage of the boats total width to increase stability. This allows for an overall narrow boat with a good amount of stability.
A central part of the Rowmore 5.5 is the sliding rig. Among other advantages, the sliding rig allows the rowers weight to remain centered in the boat, which reduces pitching caused by the rowing motion.
While the boat is not designed for down right flat water racing, speed is a central focus of the design. The hull has been optimized thru simulations to find the ideal length to width ratio identifying where pay-offs beging to decline. The result is a fast and stable boat.
With adequate friboard height and storage the Rowmore 5.5 is perfect for day trips or weekend camping in the archipelagos or coastal environments as well as lakes and rivers.
The light weight of only 29kg also contributes to easy handling, whether launching from a dock or beach or loading to a roofrack of a car.
